This page sets out how GGA.ie is funded, how we decide what to publish, and the rules we apply to fiction and commentary. We are a small volunteer-run fan project — the policies are short on purpose.
How GGA.ie is funded
GGA.ie is not currently monetised. There are no ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored posts and no paid placements in our club directory. Hosting and domain costs are borne by the site's volunteer operators.
If that ever changes — for example, if we add an affiliate link to a specific product, or accept sponsorship from an LGBTQ+ organisation — we will disclose it here and in the relevant article, and we will never accept money to change the editorial content.
Fiction policy
We publish original short fiction set in the GAA world. Two hard rules:
- We do not publish stories that depict real, named GAA players — current, former, underage, or otherwise — in romantic, sexual, or otherwise-private scenarios. Submissions that do are declined. This applies even if the piece is clearly-labelled fan fiction and even if the player is deceased.
- No explicit sexual content. Adult themes are fine; explicit scenes are not, both because of our general audience and because we want the site to remain usable in dressing-rooms and at family laptops.
Fictional characters on fictional club or county panels are fine. Fictional characters on fictional inter-county panels are also fine, so long as the county and panel are clearly invented. When a story is set inside an inter-county fiction we add a setting note above it.
News & commentary policy
We publish essays, explainers and short reported pieces. Standard editorial norms apply:
- Public figures may be reported on and analysed in their public capacity. Private lives remain private unless the subject has themselves made them public.
- Corrections are made promptly. If we get something wrong, email hello@gga.ie and we'll either fix it or, if the facts are contested, update the piece with your response.
- Opinion pieces are labelled as such. We lean progressive; we try not to be dishonest about it.
Inclusion policy
GGA.ie is explicitly for all LGBTQ+ people in GAA, of any gender identity, any code, any county, any level, and for allies. We do not publish pieces that attack the inclusion of trans, non-binary, bi, ace, or any other queer players. We will publish pieces that honestly discuss difficult policy questions (e.g. competitive-eligibility rules) where the author engages the humanity of the players involved.
Advertising & sponsorship — future policy
If we ever introduce ads or sponsorship, the rules will be:
- No ads for gambling, cryptocurrency, conversion therapy, anti-LGBTQ+ organisations, or products that market weight loss to under-18s.
- Sponsored content clearly labelled as such at the top of the piece.
- No buying or influencing the editorial content.
Who runs this
GGA.ie is run by a small volunteer team of LGBTQ+ Gaels and allies. We work in our spare time. We will usually reply to email within a week — slower if it's championship season.
